20 Days of Fasting & Prayer, Day 4

DAY 4 – Growing Pains.
READ: Acts 5: 1-5, 17-20, 40-42

Today we watch as two “church” members lie to the Apostles only to suddenly drop dead at their leaders’ feet! Meanwhile, the religious leaders (Civil Authorities) try to finally shut the new believers down by strategizing a plot to kill them. But it doesn’t work. Verse 14 shows that multitudes were constantly being added to their number. Why? Because they were doing the Lord’s work!

How does this apply to me?
In its early stages, the new church experienced external pressure to stop what they were doing. If that wasn’t enough, internal issues were already creeping in and we’re only at chapter 5! Obviously, problems in the church aren’t new and the first Christians certainly had their fill as they worked their way through their new normal. However, due to the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, none of the antics coming from believers or non-believers stopped the spread of the Gospel or the expansion of the church.

It can be the same for us. As we at Two Rivers walk this new journey, we shouldn’t let frustrations or the tough times we experience as a church get us down or derail us. Regardless of the trials, pressures, and opposition, (whether coming from the outside or within) we must remember that we have access to the same Holy Spirit and the same power as that first church. If God is with us, and He is, we will prevail. Stay focused. Stay strong!

Acts 5:38-39 So I am telling you: Hands off these men! Let them alone. If this program or this work is merely human, it will fall apart, but if it is of God, there is nothing you can do about it and you better not be found fighting against God! (The Message)

Praying Together: Let’s ask the Lord to empower us with the Holy Spirit to carry out our mission: Doing Whatever It Takes to Make Committed Followers of Jesus Christ.
